Travel a short distance to the historic riverside district of Greenwich, long associated with Britain’s maritime history. Stroll among the graceful buildings of the Old Royal Naval College and stand astride the Prime Meridian. Continue southeast through the Kent countryside to the historic town of Rochester, which was beloved by novelist Charles Dickens. Admire towering Rochester Castle, a powerful reminder of the years following the Norman Conquest of 1066, and Rochester Cathedral, one of England’s oldest churches founded over 1,400 years ago. Enjoy time strolling Rochester’s wonderfully preserved High Street, lined with historic buildings, shops, and cafes. B, D

DAY 4: FREE DAY IN LONDON

Today is yours to enjoy London at your own pace. Book a public day trip to Stonehenge, visit the Tower of London to see the Crown Jewels, explore the galleries of the British Museum, or wander through lively Covent Garden with its cafes, performers, and shops. For those interested, your Tour Director will lead an optional excursion using London’s famous Underground to Westminster for a scenic cruise along the River Thames, gliding past many of London’s greatest landmarks before arriving at Tower Bridge. B, D

DAY 5: CANTERBURY/MS NIEUW STATENDAM

Depart London and travel to the medieval city of Canterbury, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Europe. Visit the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral, seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury and the inspiration for Geoffrey Chaucer’s famous Canterbury Tales. This afternoon, board the MS Nieuw Statendam and begin your Arctic adventure. Enjoy time to settle into your cabin and become familiar with the ship. Optional shore excursions are available in each port, or you may simply enjoy the ship’s amenities. During the voyage, our group will gather for two private cocktail receptions. B, D

DAY 6: ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS

Arrive in lively Rotterdam, Europe’s busiest port and a modern architectural marvel. Choose to admire buildings designed by famed architects Rem Koolhaas and Norman Foster, or travel back in time to historic Delfshaven, the point from which the Pilgrims set sail for the New World aboard the Speedwell in 1620. You will have ample opportunities to explore Rotterdam’s world-class museums, abundant shopping, and Dutch heritage. B, L, D

DAY 11: HONNINGSVAG, NORWAY/CRUISING NORTH CAPE

As one of the northernmost cities in mainland Norway, Honningsvåg is famous for its fishing industry, colorful houses, and prime location to experience the midnight sun. If you choose to wander through Honningsvåg’s quaint streets, you may visit the North Cape Museum, sample some King Crab, or stop by the statue of Bamse, the Saint Bernard dog that became the mascot of the Free Norwegian Forces during World War II. Haugesund was once a center of Viking power and home to Norway’s first king, Harald Fairhair, who is buried nearby along the Karmsundet Strait.
