DAY 2: COEUR D’ALENE

Enjoy a morning exploring the area with a local guide before a scenic cruise of Lake Coeur d’Alene. Continue north and cross into Canada for dinner and an overnight stay at Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort. B, D

DAY 3: GLACIER-WATERTON INTERNATIONAL PEACE PARK

The full splendor of the Canadian Rockies awaits as you enter Waterton Lakes National Park. Along with Glacier, Waterton Lakes forms the International Peace Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site shared by the United States and Canada to commemorate the continued peace and goodwill between the two nations. Check in for a two-night stay at Waterton Lakes Lodge Resort, a short walk from water’s edge with gorgeous mountain views! B, L

DAY 4: WATERTON LAKES NATIONAL PARK

Step on a morning cruise of Upper Waterton Lake that continues past the international border and into Glacier National Park. Return to Waterton for a day to enjoy this beautiful area, including visits to scenic waterfalls and alpine lakes, plus dinner at the historic Prince of Wales Hotel. B, D

DAY 5: RED BUS TOUR

Say goodbye to the Canadian Rockies and hello to Glacier National Park. After crossing into the U.S., visit St. Mary Village before beginning the famous Red Bus Jammer tour along Going-to-the-Sun Road. Nicknamed the “Rubies of the Rockies,” these historic vehicles have been providing scenic and educational tours of Glacier for generations. B, L

DAY 6: GLACIER FLOAT

Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature with a guided scenic float along the Flathead River in Glacier National Park. Watch for eagles, osprey, moose, and other wildlife as you learn about the area from your expert guide. Then depart for the charming town of Whitefish, MT. Along the way, stop at the Hungry Horse Visitors center to marvel at one of America’s largest concrete arch dams and learn its role in flood control and recreation in Flathead County. While in Whitefish, enjoy free time and lunch on your own. Enjoy dinner together upon return to Kalispell. B, D

DAY 7: SILVER VALLEY

Travel west into Idaho and tour its historic Silver Valley. Visit the classic mining town of Wallace, the filming location of the 1997 movie, Dante’s Peak. Tour a working silver mine and learn about the methods of hard-rock mining. Continue to Spokane. B, D

Mobility Note
Guests should be comfortable boarding sightseeing boats, historic Red Jammer buses, a raft and the motorcoach several times each day. Walking may include paved paths, gravel, uneven natural terrain, inclines and stairs. The Sierra Silver Mine tour also involves walking underground on potentially uneven surfaces. Going-to-the-Sun Road reaches high elevations, where walking may feel more strenuous.

Mountain weather can change quickly, and frost or even light snow is possible at higher elevations around the early September departure.

Guests may notice cooler temperatures and become winded more easily at Logan Pass and other high-elevation stops.

Currency
Canadian Dollar (CAD) while in British Columbia and Alberta. Credit cards are widely accepted, but a small amount of Canadian currency may be useful for minor purchases.

Packing Tips
Pack comfortable walking shoes with good traction, removable layers, a warm jacket, rain gear, sunscreen, sunglasses and a refillable water bottle. Bring a wind-resistant layer for the Upper Waterton Lake cruise and Flathead River float. Mountain conditions may be dramatically cooler than temperatures in Spokane or Kalispell.

Hotel Note
Waterton Lakes Lodge Resort gives guests two nights inside Waterton Lakes National Park, within walking distance of the village’s restaurants, shops, lakefront and other amenities. This makes it especially easy to enjoy the park during quieter mornings and evenings without additional transportation.

The Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort in Cranbrook offers mountain views, multiple on-site dining options, an indoor pool and hot tub. Its rail-inspired setting also includes two restored vintage railcar suites, reflecting Cranbrook’s railroad heritage.

The Hilton Garden Inn Kalispell provides an indoor pool, fitness center and on-site restaurant, giving guests a comfortable two-night base for the Glacier National Park portion of the tour.

Notes on Highlights
Glacier and Waterton Lakes became the world’s first International Peace Park in 1932, symbolizing friendship between the United States and Canada. The combined park was later designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Going-to-the-Sun Road crosses the Continental Divide and is one of the most ambitious scenic roads ever constructed in a national park. The alpine section receives so much winter snow that clearing it can take several months each year, and temporary closures can still occur during summer because of snow, rockfall or severe weather.

Glacier National Park’s ecosystem remains remarkably intact and supports 71 species of mammals, including grizzly bears, black bears, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, elk and moose. Wildlife sightings are always unpredictable.

The Upper Waterton Lake cruise is particularly unusual because the boat actually crosses the international border between Canada and the United States while surrounded by protected wilderness.

The Prince of Wales Hotel opened in 1927 and is now a Canadian National Historic Site. Its dramatic hilltop location was chosen to give arriving Great Northern Railway travelers sweeping views over Waterton Lake and the surrounding mountains.

The historic Red Jammer buses are especially well suited to Going-to-the-Sun Road because their roll-back tops allow guests to look nearly straight up at cliffs, waterfalls and mountain peaks while traveling through the park.

Other General Information
Tour Communications: You will receive three key communications leading up to your tour:

• Get Ready: Your email confirmation and initial tour information, sent after you register.
• Get Set: An email with additional tour details, sent approximately two months before departure.
• Go: Your final trip documents, mailed via USPS approximately three to four weeks before departure. This packet will include your daily itinerary, luggage tags, and final departure information.

Travel Protection: Travel Protection is optional but highly recommended and may be purchased until the day before departure. Sunrise Tours offers plans through battleface. Additional information will be included with your Get Ready email and can also be found HERE.

Inclusions: Unless otherwise noted, your Sunrise Tour includes:

Gratuities: We believe tipping is a personal and discretionary interaction between our guests and staff. A typical gratuity for your Sunrise Tour Director and motorcoach driver is $6 to $10 per person, per day of the tour. Sunrise Shuttle drivers also appreciate gratuities for excellent service, with a suggested amount of $5 per person. Our staff will not solicit gratuities or distribute gratuity envelopes.

Refreshments: We are happy to provide refreshments on most motorcoach travel days. We also recommend bringing a refillable water bottle to help you stay hydrated throughout your tour.

Pickup Points: If fewer than four travelers request a particular pickup point, we may ask those guests to select another available pickup location. Travelers are also welcome to join a tour from a city that is not listed as a departure point. Please contact our friendly reservations team to discuss available arrangements. For departure cities not listed, airfare is typically $100 more than the published fare for domestic tours and $200 more for international tours.

TSA PreCheck and Airline Rewards Numbers: TSA PreCheck, Known Traveler Numbers, and airline rewards numbers must be provided to our reservations team at least 60 days before departure. Numbers received after this deadline may not be applied to your reservation.

Airline Seating: Preferred seating may not be available with group airfare. In some cases, seats are not assigned until travelers arrive at the airport. Your tour fare includes an economy-class seat but does not include advance seat selection. Seat upgrades may be available for an additional cost.

Motorcoach Capacity and Seating: To provide one of the most comfortable motorcoach experiences in the industry, Sunrise Tours generally limits motorcoaches to 80% capacity. This allows for a maximum of 44 passengers on a motorcoach designed to accommodate 55. Sunrise Tours reserves the right to amend this practice. Your Tour Director will rotate motorcoach seating each day of the tour. Payment of a single-occupancy fare does not guarantee two motorcoach seats, and you may be seated beside another friendly Sunrise Tours guest.
