Mobility Note

This tour requires moderate mobility, with walking through historic homes, resort grounds, and downtown shopping areas. A particularly important consideration is Black Point Estate, which is situated on a bluff approximately 120 steps above Geneva Lake. Guests arriving by boat must climb these stairs to reach the mansion. Yerkes Observatory also features staircases, with its historic telescope dome accessible only by stairs. Guests should be comfortable standing during guided tours, navigating occasional uneven surfaces, and boarding and exiting the motorcoach independently. Walkers and wheelchairs cannot be accommodated on this tour.

Average Temps

Lake Geneva enjoys warm summers, pleasant spring weather, and colorful autumns. Temperatures can vary considerably throughout the day, particularly near the lake, where breezes may make conditions feel cooler. Bring a light jacket or sweater for the lake cruise and cooler evenings.

Hotel Note

The AAA Four-Diamond Grand Geneva Resort & Spa offers a relaxing retreat surrounded by rolling hills and beautiful Wisconsin countryside. Guests can enjoy indoor and outdoor swimming pools, scenic walking paths, a fitness center, and the resort's WELL Spa + Salon, featuring massage treatments, facials, and salon services. Resort guests also have access to fitness classes, a sauna, steam room, and whirlpool. Spa treatments require advance reservations and are available at an additional cost.

Notes on Highlights

Lake Geneva earned its reputation as a fashionable resort destination in the late 19th century, when wealthy Chicago families began building elaborate summer estates along the shoreline. After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the area became an especially popular retreat for prominent industrialists and business leaders. Today, the lakefront remains known for its impressive architecture, beautifully landscaped properties, and timeless resort atmosphere.

One of Lake Geneva's most unusual traditions is its historic Shore Path, a public walking route that stretches approximately 21 miles around the lake. The path passes directly alongside magnificent private estates, offering a rare glimpse of gardens, boathouses, and architectural treasures that are otherwise hidden from public view. Guests with free time downtown may enjoy exploring a short portion of this picturesque route.

For a little extra pampering, guests may wish to arrange a massage, facial, or salon appointment at the Grand Geneva's WELL Spa + Salon during their leisure time. Reservations are recommended several weeks in advance, particularly for popular appointment times. The resort also offers yoga, Pilates, and other fitness classes for guests interested in beginning their morning with a little wellness.

Lake Geneva's charming downtown is filled with independently owned boutiques, specialty food shops, galleries, and sweet treats. Wisconsin is particularly well known for its locally produced cheeses, making cheese shops a fun stop for edible souvenirs. Guests may also want to look for locally made chocolates, preserves, and other regional specialties.

Travelers are also welcome to join a tour from a city that is not listed as a departure point. Please contact our friendly reservations team to discuss available arrangements. For departure cities not listed, airfare is typically $100 more than the published fare for domestic tours and $200 more for international tours.

Motorcoach Capacity and Seating: To provide one of the most comfortable motorcoach experiences in the industry, Sunrise Tours generally limits motorcoaches to 80% capacity. This allows for a maximum of 44 passengers on a motorcoach designed to accommodate 55. Sunrise Tours reserves the right to amend this practice. Your Tour Director will rotate motorcoach seating each day of the tour. Payment of a single-occupancy fare does not guarantee two motorcoach seats, and you may be seated beside another friendly Sunrise Tours guest.
