Fly into the Boston and embark Holland America’s MS Volendam for your seven-night cruise journey. D

DAY 2: EASTPORT, ME, PORT OF CALL

Your first stop is Eastport, Maine. First settled in 1798, Eastport is North America’s easternmost city, blending deep maritime history with rugged coastal beauty. Historic 19th-century brick buildings line a working waterfront along Passamaquoddy Bay, where art galleries, local shops, and traditional stone-ground mustard making meet dramatic tides and ocean views. DAY 3: HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA, PORT OF CALL

Halifax, Nova Scotia’s lively capital, blends rich maritime history with a vibrant waterfront, fascinating museums, historic fortifications, public art, and unique shops. Beyond the city, explore the rocky coastline and iconic lighthouse of Peggy’s Cove or wander the colorful streets of Lunenburg, whose historic Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. B, L, D

DAY 4: SYDNEY, NOVA SCOTIA, PORT OF CALL

Sydney, the largest city on Cape Breton Island, welcomes visitors with a lively harbor, locally made crafts, and the world’s largest fiddle. Historic homes, waterfront galleries, fresh seafood, and traditional live music showcase the city’s rich maritime culture. B, L, D

DAY 5: CHARLOTTETOWN, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, PORT OF CALL

Charlottetown, the capital and largest city of Prince Edward Island, blends small-town charm with Victorian architecture and inviting parks. The island connects to mainland Canada by the eight-mile Confederation Bridge, an engineering landmark and the world’s longest bridge over ice-covered waters. B, L, D

DAY 6: DAY AT SEA

A lighthouse on little St. Paul’s Island is a stark reminder of days gone by as you sail past this infamous old shipwreck site, known as the graveyard of the gulf, on your way through the Cabot Strait and into the Gulf of St. Lawrence. So huge is the gulf that half of Canada’s 10 provinces have a coastal connection to it. B, L, D

DAY 7: QUEBEC CITY, PORT OF CALL

Few places in North America are as steeped in history as Québec City, Canada. Older than Jamestown and founded before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, it is the only city north of Mexico whose original fortifications remain intact. The Québec City historic district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is still home to religious orders and hospitals that date back to the 17th century. B, L, D

DAY 8: DISEMBARKATION, MONTREAL

Upon arrival in Montreal, bid farewell to the Volendam as you disembark. Visit the greatest sights in the city including Notre Dame Basilica, Old Port Sector, and Olympic Park. Get to know the sights, sounds, and culture of Canadian French with the help of your local expert on a guided tour. B, D

DAY 9: ADIRONDACK TRAIN

Trade the bus for one of the most scenic rail journeys in New England, Amtrak’s Adirondack Train. Sit back and relax as you glide through the breathtaking landscapes of the Hudson Valley, taking in sweeping views of the Hudson River, Lake Champlain, and the majestic Adirondack Mountains along the way. Your journey ends this evening upon arrival in New York City. B, D

DAY 10: MANHATTAN

Explore the boroughs of New York City in the company of a well-versed local guide. As we make our way through the bustling streets, you’ll hear captivating stories, discover hidden gems, and uncover rich history shared by someone who truly knows the city inside and out. From the peaceful paths of Central Park to the bright lights of Times Square, you’ll walk away with a new appreciation for the energy, culture, and one-of-a-kind vibe that make this city so unforgettable. Enjoy an evening of exploration or relaxation and dinner on your own or even see a hit Broadway show (additional expense). B

DAY 11: RETURN HOME

Return home today from New York City with memories of an exciting northeastern land, rail, and sea adventure. B

Mobility Note
Guests should be comfortable with considerable walking and standing in port cities, historic districts, museums, and New York City. Québec City is especially hilly, with cobblestone streets, steep grades, stairs, and uneven historic surfaces. Shore excursions may also include motorcoach steps, boats, uneven terrain, and extended periods of walking depending on the experience selected.

The Amtrak journey is a full-day rail experience of approximately 11 hours from Montreal to New York. Guests should be comfortable boarding the train, walking through railcars, and remaining seated for extended periods.

Currency
Canadian Dollar (CAD) while in Canada. Credit cards are widely accepted, but a small amount of Canadian currency may be helpful for minor purchases and independent time ashore.

Required Documentation
A valid passport book is required. Guests will enter Canada during the cruise and later cross the international border back into the United States aboard Amtrak, so passports should remain easily accessible rather than packed in checked luggage.

Packing Tips
Pack comfortable walking shoes, removable layers, a waterproof jacket, and a compact umbrella. A wind-resistant layer is especially useful on open decks and in the Maritime ports, where temperatures near the water may feel cooler than the forecast suggests. Bring a sweater or light jacket for air-conditioned areas aboard the ship and train.

Cruise Note
The Volendam carries approximately 1,400 guests, making it considerably smaller than many modern mega-ships. Its size creates a more intimate onboard atmosphere and is particularly well suited to a port-intensive itinerary such as this one. The ship also features a wraparound Promenade Deck and a Crow’s Nest with panoramic views, both excellent places to enjoy the scenery while sailing through the Gulf and St. Lawrence River.

Hotel Note
The Hampton Inn Montreal Downtown is located at the edge of Old Montreal and Chinatown, putting historic streets, restaurants, Notre-Dame Basilica, and the Old Port within easy reach. The hotel also features a rooftop terrace and outdoor pool.

The Courtyard Manhattan/Central Park offers an excellent Midtown location just steps from Central Park, Broadway theaters, Times Square, Columbus Circle, and Rockefeller Center. The hotel occupies part of one of North America’s tallest hotel buildings, and its floor-to-ceiling windows offer impressive Manhattan views from many guest rooms.

Notes on Highlights
Eastport is the easternmost city in the United States and sits beside the Bay of Fundy region, home to some of the greatest tidal ranges on Earth. The dramatic change in water level helps create powerful currents and whirlpools around Passamaquoddy Bay.

The Volendam’s smaller size is especially valuable in this itinerary because it allows the ship to visit Eastport, a tiny Maine community that is rarely included on larger cruise itineraries.

The cruise travels through the Gulf of St. Lawrence and then into the St. Lawrence River, meaning the scenery gradually changes from open ocean and rugged Maritime coastlines to islands, riverside communities, and the historic cities of Québec and Montreal.

Québec City is the only fortified city north of Mexico whose historic walls remain largely intact. Because the ship docks directly in the city, guests arrive by water much as travelers have for centuries, with Château Frontenac and Old Québec rising above the river.

The Adirondack is consistently regarded as one of Amtrak’s most scenic routes. South of the Canadian border, the train travels along Lake Champlain before following portions of the Hudson River toward New York City, providing lengthy stretches of scenery that cannot be appreciated in the same way from the highway.

The journey combines three very different styles of travel in one vacation: a seven-night cruise through New England and Atlantic Canada, a scenic international rail journey through the Adirondacks and Hudson Valley, and a two-night stay in Manhattan.

Tour Communications: You will receive three key communications leading up to your tour:

• Get Ready: Your email confirmation and initial tour information, sent after you register.
• Get Set: An email with additional tour details, sent approximately two months before departure.
• Go: Your final trip documents, mailed via USPS approximately three to four weeks before departure. This packet will include your daily itinerary, luggage tags, and final departure information.

Travel Protection: Travel Protection is optional but highly recommended and may be purchased until the day before departure. Sunrise Tours offers plans through battleface. Additional information will be included with your Get Ready email and can also be found HERE.

Inclusions: Unless otherwise noted, your Sunrise Tour includes:

Gratuities: We believe tipping is a personal and discretionary interaction between our guests and staff. A typical gratuity for your Sunrise Tour Director and motorcoach driver is $6 to $10 per person, per day of the tour. Sunrise Shuttle drivers also appreciate gratuities for excellent service, with a suggested amount of $5 per person. Our staff will not solicit gratuities or distribute gratuity envelopes.

Refreshments: We are happy to provide refreshments on most motorcoach travel days. We also recommend bringing a refillable water bottle to help you stay hydrated throughout your tour.

Pickup Points: If fewer than four travelers request a particular pickup point, we may ask those guests to select another available pickup location. Travelers are also welcome to join a tour from a city that is not listed as a departure point. Please contact our friendly reservations team to discuss available arrangements. For departure cities not listed, airfare is typically $100 more than the published fare for domestic tours and $200 more for international tours.

TSA PreCheck and Airline Rewards Numbers: TSA PreCheck, Known Traveler Numbers, and airline rewards numbers must be provided to our reservations team at least 60 days before departure. Numbers received after this deadline may not be applied to your reservation.

Airline Seating: Preferred seating may not be available with group airfare. In some cases, seats are not assigned until travelers arrive at the airport. Your tour fare includes an economy-class seat but does not include advance seat selection. Seat upgrades may be available for an additional cost.

Motorcoach Capacity and Seating: To provide one of the most comfortable motorcoach experiences in the industry, Sunrise Tours generally limits motorcoaches to 80% capacity. This allows for a maximum of 44 passengers on a motorcoach designed to accommodate 55. Sunrise Tours reserves the right to amend this practice. Your Tour Director will rotate motorcoach seating each day of the tour. Payment of a single-occupancy fare does not guarantee two motorcoach seats, and you may be seated beside another friendly Sunrise Tours guest.
