DAY 3: U.S. MILITARY ACADEMY

Travel to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the nation’s oldest military academy. A guided tour will follow in the footsteps of generals and presidents, tracing the paths of America’s great leaders. Enjoy lunch at West Point’s historic Hotel Thayer, where you’ll be surrounded by old-world charm. B, L

DAY 4: THE ROOSEVELTS

Explore the life and legacy of President Franklin D. Roosevelt with visits to his home, gardens, final resting place, and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, the first presidential library in the United States and the only one used by a sitting president. Continue to Val-Kill, Eleanor Roosevelt’s private retreat, before touring the grand Vanderbilt Mansion and its formal Italian-style gardens. B, D

DAY 5: NYC & 9/11 MEMORIAL & MUSEUM

This morning, join a local expert for a guided tour of New York City, discovering its iconic landmarks and vibrant neighborhoods. This afternoon, visit the One World Observatory atop One World Trade Center, the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere—where sweeping panoramic views from 1,776 feet offer a powerful tribute to the nation’s founding. View St. Paul’s Chapel, the oldest surviving church building in Manhattan, and conclude the day with a reflective visit to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. Settle in this evening for a four-night stay. DAY 6: STATUE OF LIBERTY AND BROADWAY

Begin the day by ferrying across the Hudson River to Liberty Island, where you’ll explore the Statue of Liberty Museum and her pedestal. Continue by ferry to Ellis Island to see the American Immigrant Wall of Honor and tour the National Museum of Immigration, which traces the nation’s immigration story from the 1500s to today. This evening, enjoy a fun dining experience at Ellen’s Stardust Diner, where the singing waitstaff provide live entertainment throughout your meal. Afterwards, take a stroll along Broadway’s famous “Great White Way” before attending a hit Broadway performance (TBD). B, D

DAY 7: FREE TIME TO EXPLORE THE BIG APPLE

After last night’s Broadway performance, take part in an optional intimate discussion with a talented Broadway artist, offering behind-the-scenes insights and stories from the stage. This afternoon is free to explore New York City at your leisure; your Sunrise Tour Director can help you plan your day (optional activities available at an additional cost). Conclude your day with a farewell dinner exchanging stories with your fellow travelers. B, D

Mobility Note
Guests should be comfortable with considerable walking and standing throughout museums, historic estates, West Point and New York City. The Hudson Valley sites may include gravel paths, lawns, hills, steps and uneven historic surfaces. In New York City, guests should expect crowded sidewalks, curbs, stairs, security lines and extended periods on their feet. The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island day also requires boarding and exiting ferries and walking between multiple attractions.

Late August and early September can be warm and humid in New York City, while mornings and evenings in the Hudson Valley may feel somewhat cooler.

Packing Tips
Pack very comfortable walking shoes, lightweight clothing, removable layers, sunscreen and a compact rain jacket or umbrella. A light sweater is useful for air-conditioned museums, restaurants and the Broadway theater. A small day bag is preferable to a large backpack, especially on days involving security screening.

Security Note
Visitors to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island pass through airport-style security before boarding the ferry. Guests entering the Statue of Liberty pedestal go through a second security screening, and backpacks, food, drinks and other larger items must be stored in lockers before entering the monument.

A REAL ID-compliant identification or valid passport is required for the included visit to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, as noted in the itinerary.

Hotel Note
The four-night SpringHill Suites stay gives guests an extended Manhattan base rather than changing hotels during the New York City portion. The listed SpringHill Suites Manhattan/Times Square property is just steps from Times Square and surrounded by Broadway theaters, restaurants and Midtown attractions, making the location especially useful during free time.

Notes on Highlights
West Point began as a strategic Revolutionary War military post in 1778, decades before it became the United States Military Academy. Its commanding location above a sharp bend in the Hudson River was chosen because controlling this section of the river was critical to preventing British forces from dividing the colonies.

The Roosevelt day offers an unusually complete look at one influential American family. Guests see Franklin D. Roosevelt’s lifelong home and presidential library along with Val-Kill, the place Eleanor Roosevelt chose as her own retreat, office and home and where she developed much of her social and political work.

The Vanderbilt Mansion represents a completely different side of Hudson Valley history. Its wealthy owners incorporated advanced technology for the 1890s, including electric lighting powered by their own estate powerhouse.

The Statue of Liberty’s pedestal is nearly as tall as the statue itself. The statue measures about 151 feet tall, while the pedestal rises about 154 feet, bringing the monument’s total height to approximately 305 feet.

The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are reached by the only ferry service authorized to dock at both islands, allowing guests to experience New York Harbor from the water as part of the sightseeing day.

The four-night Manhattan stay gives guests something that is particularly valuable in New York: a full free afternoon to pursue their own interests after already receiving an orientation from a local guide. Guests can use that time for another museum, Central Park, shopping, an observation deck, a neighborhood visit or even another Broadway performance.

Tour Communications: You will receive three key communications leading up to your tour:

• Get Ready: Your email confirmation and initial tour information, sent after you register.
• Get Set: An email with additional tour details, sent approximately two months before departure.
• Go: Your final trip documents, mailed via USPS approximately three to four weeks before departure. This packet will include your daily itinerary, luggage tags, and final departure information.

Travel Protection: Travel Protection is optional but highly recommended and may be purchased until the day before departure. Sunrise Tours offers plans through battleface. Additional information will be included with your Get Ready email and can also be found HERE.

Gratuities: We believe tipping is a personal and discretionary interaction between our guests and staff. A typical gratuity for your Sunrise Tour Director and motorcoach driver is $6 to $10 per person, per day of the tour. Sunrise Shuttle drivers also appreciate gratuities for excellent service, with a suggested amount of $5 per person. Our staff will not solicit gratuities or distribute gratuity envelopes.

Refreshments: We are happy to provide refreshments on most motorcoach travel days. We also recommend bringing a refillable water bottle to help you stay hydrated throughout your tour.

Pickup Points: If fewer than four travelers request a particular pickup point, we may ask those guests to select another available pickup location. Travelers are also welcome to join a tour from a city that is not listed as a departure point. Please contact our friendly reservations team to discuss available arrangements. For departure cities not listed, airfare is typically $100 more than the published fare for domestic tours and $200 more for international tours.

TSA PreCheck and Airline Rewards Numbers: TSA PreCheck, Known Traveler Numbers, and airline rewards numbers must be provided to our reservations team at least 60 days before departure. Numbers received after this deadline may not be applied to your reservation.

Airline Seating: Preferred seating may not be available with group airfare. In some cases, seats are not assigned until travelers arrive at the airport. Your tour fare includes an economy-class seat but does not include advance seat selection. Seat upgrades may be available for an additional cost.

Motorcoach Capacity and Seating: To provide one of the most comfortable motorcoach experiences in the industry, Sunrise Tours generally limits motorcoaches to 80% capacity. This allows for a maximum of 44 passengers on a motorcoach designed to accommodate 55. Sunrise Tours reserves the right to amend this practice. Your Tour Director will rotate motorcoach seating each day of the tour. Payment of a single-occupancy fare does not guarantee two motorcoach seats, and you may be seated beside another friendly Sunrise Tours guest.
